About Me

I’m a flute and saxophone teacher, and have been teaching pupils for over 30 years.

I have a wealth of experience in helping my pupils through graded music exams with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music up to Grade 8 practical or performance and Grade 5 theory, but am also quite happy to teach people who just want to play for fun.  Any age are welcome as it’s never too late to learn an instrument.

I love music, and aim to give my pupils a wide selection of music to enjoy and master.
I believe it is possible to teach people just as much from Beyonce as from Bach and there is a chance that some might enjoy it more and hence practice that bit more often too!

Pupils are taught in a friendly, fun and supportive way, designed to challenge and encourage each pupil to develop as a musician as well as to have an enjoyable time. I enter pupils for exams all year round, and there is never any pressure to take exams until they feel ready and happy to do so.

I work through term time and school holidays, although feel free to cancel during school holidays if you prefer. I teach Monday to Thursday, 3:30pm – 6pm and charge £14 for a half hour lesson which can be paid weekly in cash or bank transfer, or you can pay for blocks of lessons if you prefer. If you do need to cancel any week, I do not charge for this as long as I have been told before the lesson.

As you are coming to my home, I thought it would be good to introduce you to my family as you may see them around. I’ve been married to Steve for 28 years, and he is a retired drama teacher. Antonia has just got married and is a professional artist, Catriona is studying for her Masters at Lancaster University and Ollie is manager of a Coffee shop in Derby. We are a crazy and creative family!
